1.0 INTRODUCTIONSensual impulses and physiological urges are common to animals and men. Impulsesand urges are regulated by instinct in animals, while man is left with common sense, intelligence, and developed reason to control these. According to the Bhagvat Gita, the ancient scripture, the impulse is vegan (force, urge, or speed). Further, the scripturessay, a happy man is one who is able to endure the impulses born out of desire andanger (Chinmayananda, 1992). Impulses are mental forces operating through themind and the intellect. The instinctive impulses are the prime movers of all humanactivities (Sivananda, 1952).
