Reseña del libro

Donald John Macleod is brought up learning the craft skills, social skills, and country lore of a Western Isles crofting/fishing community. This foundation prepared generations of Scots to succeed as pioneers, settlers, and entrepreneurs in far foreign lands, but he is entering a changing modern world. He realises the old lifestyle is passing and the expressive Gaelic language is being abandoned. Advice from all sides is to get a good education and break free of his roots. Why should he leave? Why risk the unknown? Should he not show loyalty to his native land? In adolescence he is faced with the attitude that accuses Scots of getting above their station should they show ambition at home. A university degree, an English girlfriend from a different social class, and a taste of big city life open Donald John's eyes to a wider world beyond Scotland. Destiny calls, where will it lead?
