Skin infection is a condition of the skin caused due to bacterial, fungal, viral or parasitic agents, and infestations. It can cause inflammation. Some bacterial skin infections are impetigo, cellulitis, folliculitis and erysipelas. Fungal skin infection can be either a superficial or a deep infection of the skin, nails or hair. Viral skin conditions are generally caused due to two main groups of viruses, namely the DNA and RNA types. Parasitic infestations, stings and bites are caused by organisms from the phyla Annelida, Chordata, Cyanobacteria, Echinodermata, etc. This book contains some pathophysiological studies in the field of skin infections. Also included herein is a detailed explanation of the various mechanisms and therapeutic strategies for the treatment of skin infections.
