The Mapuche are a group of indigenous inhabitants of Patagonia. The collective term refers to a diverse ethnicity composed of various groups who shared a social and religious structure, as well as a common language, Mapudungun. The mythology and religion of the Mapuche contain an extensive collection of shared beliefs. These myths tell the story of the creation of the world and speak of deities and spirits that reside in the Patagonia. They also try to explain how some plants, animals, lakes and mountains were created. This short work contains an anthology of legends and myths that are common to the various Mapuche tribes.
