This book tells the stories of 11 valiant WW II pilots from the Spokane, Washington area. Two of the pilots, Lt. Charles Gumm and 2nd Lt. Eugene Shauvin, graduated from John Rogers High School and are in its "Walk of FAME." Both of these pilots gave their lives while flying overseas in the U.S. Army Air Corp.Fighter Pilot Aces and Bomber Pilots (two of which were shot down, one becoming a POW in Japan) tell their remarkable stories. Also included is a beautifully written WW II diary by Phyllis Shauvin.Lt. Charles Gumm flew the new P-51B Mustang fighter as a bomber escort. He was the first to record a kill and the Top Ace in the 354 Group 9th Air Force when he sacrificed his life to save a village.
