Whenever I prepared lessons from the Word of God, I would often be reminded of a particular hymn or Gospel song that served to illustrate or amplify some point in my communication. As I searched through my library, it was interesting how many times lyrics from godly composers had been included in my notes. Oftentimes the words of a hymn or Gospel song seemed to express spiritual truths far better than anything I could say from my sermonic research. Eventually I developed and presented a few brief devotionals built around hymns that I termed Sermons in Song. That has evolved into this writing project which I have chosen to call by the same title. Therefore, in selecting the material for this book, I have included three hymns or Gospel song lyrics with each devotional, for a total of 150 selections. While there are some excellent contemporary hymns and songs available, I expressly chose those dating back to the 18th - 20th centuries. These are the old standard hymns that most of the older generation still remember and use in some of today's worship services.
