In this novel I attempt to understand and describe the anxiety and fear of the conflict which had just begun in Italy and which would end up ravaging the whole world... I put forward questions to which I would like clear answers but despite the fact that almost 70 years have transpired since the end of the war are nonetheless still unclear and often distorted. There were many reasons which spurred me to write, among which was the fervent hope that what has happened in the recent past serves as a strong admonition to today's youth. I believe that perhaps the most important motivation for me was to attempt to incite the newer generations to reflect on and be more critical of those leaders who offer too easy solutions tailor-made to everyman's needs. Others have already done this and the results have later been revealed to be all but disastrous. This applies in equal measure to certain media organizations which daily serve them up to us. With this, I hope they can understand that men of miracles have never existed and will never exist.
