Marguerite Yourcenar (1903–1987) fue una destacada escritora francesa, naturalizada estadounidense, reconocida por su maestría en la novela histórica, el ensayo y la poesía. Su obra más célebre es Memorias de Adriano (1951), traducida al español por Julio Cortázar. Otras novelas notables incluyen Opus nigrum (1968), Alexis o el tratado del inútil combate (1929) y El tiro de gracia (1939). También incursionó en la narrativa breve con títulos como Fuegos (1936), Cuentos orientales (1938) y Como el agua que fluye (1982).

Yourcenar fue la primera mujer en ser elegida miembro de la Academia Francesa en 1980. Su estilo literario se caracteriza por una prosa refinada y una profunda exploración de la condición humana.
