On a snowy school day like any other, classmates and childhood friends Hiroshi and Mizuki arrive at school to find the campus eerily empty. Before long, they find themselves trapped inside with six other friends, and even stranger, all the clocks have stopped at a very specific moment--the exact time when a former classmate jumped off the school roof to their death three months earlier. It turns out that this departed friend is their way out of their current predicament and may even be among their group...but no one can remember who it was that took their life on that sad day. The students must face themselves and their past memories to piece together the identity of this suicide victim or risk a similar fate--with their lives lost and forgotten inside these frigid school walls.

Mizuki Tsujimura (Fuefuki, Yamanashi, 1980) es una escritora japonesa reconocida por sus novelas de misterio y literatura juvenil. Debutó en 2004 con Tsumetai Kōsha no Toki wa Tomaru, obra que le valió el Premio Mephisto. Su carrera incluye títulos destacados como Tsunagu (2011), galardonado con el Premio Yoshikawa Eiji para Nuevos Escritores, y Kagi no nai Yume wo Miru (2012), que le otorgó el prestigioso Premio Naoki. Además, ha incursionado en el cine como guionista de Doraemon: Nobita no Getsumen Tansaki (2019).

Su novela más conocida internacionalmente es El castillo a través del espejo (Kagami no Kojō, 2017), que recibió el Japan Booksellers' Award en 2018. La obra fue adaptada al manga por Tomo Taketomi y al cine de animación por el estudio A-1 Pictures en 2022. Tsujimura combina elementos fantásticos con temáticas sociales como el acoso escolar y la salud mental, consolidándose como una voz influyente en la literatura contemporánea japonesa.
