Sally Winton is an ambitious and single-minded reporter on a local newspaper who dreams of investigative journalism on a national newspaper. Bill Thomas is an experienced detective approaching retirement with little time for the ruthless and, occasionally, unscrupulous means Sally uses to reach her ends. When the discovery of a woman's body is connected to the mysterious reappearance of the missing teenager Eve Lawrence, Sally is determined to get her story and, hence, her big break.
