Ava Reid nació en Manhattan y se crio al otro lado del río Hudson, en Hoboken, Nueva Jersey, pero actualmente vive en Palo Alto, California. La autora cuenta con una licenciatura en Ciencias Políticas por el Barnard College, centrada en la religión y el etnonacionalismo. Además, ha trabajado en una organización de reasentamiento de refugiados, para un senador de Estados Unidos y, recientemente, en una empresa emergente de robótica e inteligencia artificial.
