Doris Lessing (Irán, 1919 - Londres, 2013), fue una escritora inglesa nacida en Persia, pasó su infancia en una granja de Zimbabwe tras el traslado familiar en 1924. Abandonó la escuela a los 14 años y se formó de manera autodidacta mientras trabajaba como auxiliar de clínica, marcada por una relación conflictiva con su madre que la llevó a independizarse a los 17 años. Tras dos matrimonios y tres hijos, se instaló en Inglaterra en 1949, donde inició su carrera literaria con Canta la hierba (1950), novela que denunciaba el racismo en África.

Su obra, influenciada por su vida en África y su militancia comunista, fusiona crítica social -colonialismo, desigualdad racial- con exploraciones autobiográficas, como en la serie Hijos de la violencia (1952-1969). Incursionó en la ciencia ficción con Canopus in Argos y abordó la emancipación femenina en El cuaderno dorado (1962), obra icónica que la convirtió en símbolo feminista pese a su rechazo a la etiqueta. Galardonada con el Premio Nobel de Literatura (2007) y el Príncipe de Asturias (2001), su legado perdura como una de las voces más críticas y visionarias del siglo XX.
