When Frenchman Henri Gener docks his sailboat Monique on the island of Saipan he has two things on his mind sex and adventure. "Always eat the fresh bread first." He says. With roguish good looks and tough guy appearance he seduces Sydna, a secretary in the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands Attorney General's office, and makes an enemy of Assistant Attorney General Mark Meriday. On the island 14 miles long and 3 miles wide he encounters politician and racketeer Senator Tobias Bili, and a second man every bit as mysterious as he. Jonathan Cartwright is suave, educated and apparently out of place on the small island. The Frenchman soon becomes ensnared in island intrigue. Falsely accused of murder and with enemies he's made wanting him dead, he flees during the night. His successful escape and hubris leads him to risk stopping at Truk Lagoon, a massive lake in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Located hundreds of miles from Saipan, Truk is the home of Senator Bili. It proves to be a life threatening mistake. Set in Micronesia, Alone on Land and Sea gives the reader a glimpse of the events leading to the dissolution of the United Nations trust territory.
