In the distant future, humanity has mastered interstellar travel and colonized the far reaches of the galaxy. The galaxy is now divided between five major empires, and a delicate balance of power keeps the political tensions between these empires in check. But constant espionage and isolated skirmishes create an environment of perpetual cold war. Lately, however, hostilities are increasing between two of these empires, and it seems like the fragile peace may soon collapse. Scattered throughout this fragile environment are the Nomeks, a group of nomadic space trader clans that steer clear of galactic politics. Arthur Nova is the member of one such clan, which was nearly wiped out by a feared space pirate when Arthur was just a baby. During a routine expedition, Arthur discovers he has abilities that border on superhuman, and a chance meeting with an eccentric military officer will lead his clan on an expedition that will test their neutrality in order to hung the pirate that nearly destroyed them.
