Peter Zumthor, nacido el 26 de abril de 1943 en Basilea, Suiza, es un arquitecto reconocido por su enfoque minimalista y su atención meticulosa a los materiales y la luz. Antes de dedicarse a la arquitectura, se formó como ebanista, lo que influyó en su apreciación por la artesanía y los detalles. Estudió en la Kunstgewerbeschule de Basilea y en el Pratt Institute de Nueva York. En 1979, estableció su propio estudio en Haldenstein, Suiza.

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran las Termas de Vals (1996) en Suiza y el Museo de Arte de Bregenz (1997) en Austria. Su trabajo ha sido reconocido con numerosos premios, incluyendo el Premio Pritzker en 2009 y la Medalla de Oro del RIBA en 2013. Además de su práctica profesional, Zumthor ha sido profesor en la Accademia di Architettura dell'Università della Svizzera Italiana en Mendrisio y ha impartido clases en diversas universidades a nivel mundial.
