Perhaps there is no being that does not love freedom-

 because freedom is its very nature.

But if we look at the mental, social, and patterned life of a human being,

 freedom is nowhere to be seen in it.

 He is a slave to time, society, circumstances, place, and the body-

 and yet he is under the illusion that he is free.

Sometimes he calls changing masters freedom,

 sometimes acting on his own will-

 without understanding that neither the mind is his own, nor the will.

 Even that which he considers as "self"-

 is not his own.

In reality, without self-realization, freedom is not possible.

 Awareness of one's unconsciousness - that is, one's own slavery -

 is the beginning of freedom.

 And the absence of the slave is true freedom,

 because the slave and slavery are never separate and independent.

Through this book, you will come to understand

 what your real bondages are

 and what true freedom is.

This book is a mirror-

 that will show you your own reality,

 and by lighting the lamp of awareness,

 will dissolve the darkness of illusion, fear, bondage, and sorrow.
