Ram Dass (1931-2019), nacido como Richard Alpert, fue un psicólogo, escritor y maestro espiritual estadounidense. Profesor de Harvard durante los años sesenta, trabajó junto a Timothy Leary en investigaciones sobre sustancias psicodélicas. En 1967 viajó a la India, donde conoció al maestro espiritual Neem Karoli Baba, quien le dio el nombre de Ram Dass, que significa «servidor de Dios».

A partir de entonces, dedicó su vida a explorar y difundir prácticas de meditación, yoga y espiritualidad oriental en Occidente. Su libro más conocido, Be Here Now (1971), se convirtió en un referente de la contracultura y acercó estas tradiciones a millones de lectores. Entre sus otras obras destacan Grist for the Mill, How Can I Help? y Polishing the Mirror. Murió en Maui en 2019, a los 88 años.
