As young Barry D. Loffler learns during the fraught days of the Vietnam War, mere survival isn't the only thing worth fighting for out there in the jungle. He joined the war to become a hero of a different sort, but Barry soon realizes that dreams aren't enough to sustain him so far from home. He will call upon both his tribal legacy and his grandfather's wisdom to find the right path forward. Barry will find friendship and love on his journey but also brutality and senseless violence. In this tense coming-of-age story, he will discover his limits and the surprising power of his own moral code and integrity.
