Blinzeln (en Inglés) - Philip James Saunders

Part two of the Magnetic Duck trilogy.

"Blinzeln" is a noir-infused science fiction thriller about consciousness, corruption, and the terrible cost of doing what’s right.

Seventeen years after ten journalists propagated a lie told by Buoc Toi aliens, New York hides its darkest secrets.

An alternative 1940’s where World War II never scarred humanity, Earth is a secret battleground.

Two alien species - the manipulative Buoc Toi and their enigmatic adversaries, the Gondnok - influence affairs from the shadows. Government secrecy collides with extraterrestrial intrigue, while the Magnetic Duck, a conscious machine with more wisdom than most men, seeks his place in a society that distrusts him as much as it needs him.

After halting a cybernetic apocalypse, Duck’s damaged body is now held by a clandestine Government Agency debating whether to use or destroy him. An investigation into corrupt Mayor Noah Cassidy becomes a pulse-pounding race against time to rescue kidnapped children while a terrifying new threat emerges, a psychic killer wreaking havoc and destruction leaving law enforcement baffled.

Elizabeth "Jet Girl" Wilkinson, an artist recovering from a gunshot wound is re-united with Duck. Her fragmented memories, observational skills, and trauma give Duck the information and clarity he needs to unravel the conspiracies and work with the Agency to protect humanity.

The Agency must coordinate with returning character, Vidcast host Erin Leydell, in a desperate gamble to stop the killer on a packed Coney Island on July 4th. But can cynical, world-weary Agent Cayden Vonnegut destroy the monster without becoming one himself?

"Blinzeln" is ideal for readers who enjoy:

Science fiction with noir/crime elements

Alternative history thrillers

Exploration of AI consciousness

Multi-threaded narratives with high stakes action

Blinzeln is a genre-bending narrative that stands out for its immersive world-building, from the chilled warehouses of the Meat Packing District in Manhattan to the crowds of Coney Island boardwalk, emotionally resonant characters, and a plot that keeps readers guessing until the final pages. It challenges assumptions about free will, loyalty, and the cost of survival in a universe where nothing-and no one-is as it seems.

Blinzeln continues the story begun in "Kingmaker" while standing as a complete narrative arc. Readers new to the series will find all necessary context within this volume, though returning fans will appreciate deeper character development and the expansion of the world’s mythology.
