 This volume brings together scholarly articles on Cicero’s Academics, one of the most significant works for the history of Platonism and for reconstructing the intense Hellenistic debate between the so-called Skeptical Academy and the Stoa concerning the possibility, nature, and limits of knowledge. The contributions are written by leading specialists in classical philology and the history of philosophy.

The articles address all the central aspects of the dialogue, including its characters and themes, as well as the complex philological issues related to the text. Most importantly, they trace the Academics’ reception from antiquity through the medieval, modern, and contemporary periods, demonstrating the work’s enduring relevance to the history of epistemological thought in the Western philosophical tradition.
