Karl Marlantes (Astoria, Oregón, 1944) es un escritor y veterano de guerra estadounidense, conocido por su profunda exploración de la experiencia bélica y sus consecuencias. Graduado de Yale y becario Rhodes en Oxford, sirvió como teniente de infantería de marina en Vietnam, donde fue condecorado con la Cruz de la Armada, la Estrella de Bronce, dos Medallas de Encomio de la Armada por valor, dos Corazones Púrpura y diez Medallas Aéreas. Su experiencia en combate y su posterior lucha con el trastorno de estrés postraumático han influido significativamente en su obra literaria.

Su primera novela, Matterhorn: Una novela sobre la guerra de Vietnam (2010), basada en sus vivencias, fue aclamada por la crítica y recibió premios como el Colby Award y el W.Y.
