The essential work area for students in online degree programmes is the online course material. The content, design and user-friendliness are responsible for successful learning and thus for successful completion of the programme. In online degree programmes, students must largely find their motivation at home, outside of a campus and predominantly without direct contact with fellow students and teaching staff. The online platforms of virtual universities, such as Moodle, replace the real campus. Email, video conferencing, chat systems and online meetings enable exchange between students and professors. However, due to their independence from fixed times, online students primarily communicate and exchange media with the course material. Ideally, the course material should therefore impart knowledge, motivate students to learn, encourage them to conduct further research on the topics, promote independent study of the material and confirm that the specified goals have been achieved. Learning and knowledge assessment play a crucial role within the course material.
