On Christmas Eve of 1990, my mom went to the hospital. At 8 years old, I had no idea that was the last time I would ever see her. When she died, I disappeared. I went “somewhere else” I went “nowhere”. Twenty-seven years and countless blocked memories later, I still find myself listening for the doorbell, hoping it’s her finger that pressed the button. I have always been one to compartmentalize my emotions, but conversations in the mirror have helped me climb the ladder; from “nowhere”. Life is good, but it has a mean undertone. Through photography as well as the art of creative writing, I share my thoughts and experiences on death, divorcing religion, racism, prejudice, doubt, self-worth, mental health and love. Conversations in a Mirror on a Ladder is a daily good-read. I wrote this for generations past, present and future.
