Rory Caldwell came home to South Dakota to bury his father. He never expected to inherit a responsibility he couldn’t walk away from. Named trustee of the family farm, Rory is bound by his father’s final wishes: the land cannot be sold. Then his tractor strikes something buried beneath an isolated field. What he digs from the earth is unlike any material ever discovered-nearly weightless, impossible to break, and untouched by fire. But the fragment is only the beginning. Tests reveal that something far larger lies beneath the Caldwell farm.

And Rory isn’t the only one who wants to know what it is. As scientists, government officials, and powerful outside interests close in, a dispute over a dying family farm becomes a struggle for control of a discovery that could change the world. Rory’s father refused to surrender the land. Now everyone wants it. Some things are buried for a reason.
