$ 140.37This book is volume 1 of The Linguistic Landscape of Higher Education Internationalisation, a project which analyses the implementation of English as a language of globalization and internationalization (ELGI - a new term, first presented in this work) in different geographical settings, particularly countries in the 'outer' and 'expanding circles' (c.f., Braj Kachru) in Asia, Latin America, and the Middle East where English is not a heritage or official language. The authors approach the issue from the point of view of identities, local languages, and cultures toward the Englishisation of Higher Education (HE), and the way English is offered at HE institutions. They also explore resistance to Englishisation, giving voice to stakeholders and students/teachers who share their experiences at the grassroots level. The volumes also consider language policies, putting legal frameworks and ethical dimensions of language policies at the forefront, and discuss the importance of the digital revolution in the process of internationalisation and Englishisation of HE, emphasizing the role of technology, online learning, and digital platforms in shaping language use in international education.
This first volume is focused on the linguistic landscape, language policy, and the intersection of English with local languages in higher education systems, including the essence of publications, linguistic digitalization and sign language. Volume two focuses on the pedagogical and professional applications of English in higher education, with emphasis on English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI), Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), and skills development, both to teachers and students.
These books will be of interest to researchers, academics, students, and educators working in the field of international education, language issues, language policies, language education, international and comparative education, Englishisation of HE, and applied linguistics.
