Conspiring with another inmate, they escape before the unit is slaughtered and find their way to the shimmering city of Yekaterinburg where deceit and death begin to haunt the man. A capitalist metropolis, people rot in the streets while others use manufactured genetic-engineering to improve their genome and create an elite class of humans. The man works as an enforcer for one of these business men in the genetics business, but, as he does, his world becomes increasingly unbearable the more he realizes that the people around him aren't to be trusted. David Grother's debut novel, Evolution of a Species, is the story of one man's journey through an almost libertarian society built on greed and selfishness, where all hope seems bleak and even God seems to have abandoned it. The darkness that surrounds the novel is simply the mysteriousness regarding the culmination of questions that must be asked as bio-engineering becomes more and more relevant, and how, as a capitalist society, we should attempt to answer these questions.
