"Everyone who works has the right to just and favourable remuneration ensuring for himself and his family an existence worthy of human dignity. Article 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, 1948. This quotation is the central idea of this thesis, which seeks to know to what extent fair trade can constitute an alternative to traditional trade, which is very much guided by the concern to maximize profit to the detriment of social value. By taking the case of "fair trade coffee", we were able to observe, despite the youth of the experience, that this type of trade manages to preserve a dignified life for small producers in the South.
