A few years ago, Lingo was traveling from Madison, WI through Paris, France to his hometown, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. A short layover in Chicago was extended to consume the time he would've spent in Paris where the clerk at the American Airlines kiosk redirected his flight through Frankfurt, Germany. As this would be considered a domestic flight within the EU, without the proper visa, he was taken into custody and forced to spend time in the refugee facility at Charles De Gaulle Int'l airport. He didn't know how long he would stay, but while he was there he was met with refugees from all over the world, and seeing that he couldn't converse with most, given the language barrier, he found himself surrounded with Arabic speaking people of different dialects. These were people who've escaped the Arab Spring and the book delves into their stories with a brief overview of the politics associated with why they felt the need to leave their own homes as well as how they found themselves in that facility.
