General Information in Paediatrics (Arabic edition) is a book written for all who care about children. The children under the age of 17 year, in the Arab world, constitute 60% of population. The number of doctors simply do not cover such numbers. Besides, the general knowledge in Paediatrics and child health is near zero in between the lay peoples. The libraries lack books in that subject and after 45 years of practicing Paediatrics in public and private clinical settings and teaching in Iraq's medical colleges at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, I thought of putting my experience in that field in this book targeting families, nursing schools, general practitioners and medical colleges. Writing on the practical and scientific side in language which is easy to understand and focusing on important subject in daily need like feeding, immunization, understanding the child's diseases ways of spreading and their prevention and highlighting the role of families in helping doctors to reach the diagnosis is some of the scopes of this book. A distinct emphasis is expressed on medical examinations before a marriage of relatives with its possible child genetic and inherited diseases. Similarly, the book was written with alike distinctive stress on the significance of feeding, vitamins, and on diseases of the area like sickle cell disease and Thalassemia. The diseases of muscular system, toddlers common poisoning accidents are among many other ailments our children can suffer from. Another parameter of the subject is the important role of the doctor in schools and in the development of the child with special emphasis on autism, hyperactive child, mental retardation and diseases of the mother and importance of examination of the new born babies. I hope this book will serve the reasons of writing.
