Not unlike Lewis Carroll's young lady, Wayne Philips falls down a hole and enters a wonderland of machinery designed to safeguard the world from the possibility of becoming a lifeless lump of rock.The idea for this story came to me when I visited a lookout at Mt Archer near Rockhampton in Queensland I was told that if I released the hand-brake on my car it would slowly climb uphill and sure enough it happened. When I inquired if my informant knew the reason for this phenomenon I was informed vaguely that it was 'something in the ground'.I wrote the story to hopefully entertain those science fiction readers who are jaded with the idea that the main character has to be a super-hero with a super intellect.
