Ernest Hemingway's mark on American literature cannot be overstated. Under the modernist poet Ezra Pound's mentorship, Hemingway's early writings show him developing his unique style of sparse, objective prose. With the success of his first novel, The Sun Also Rises, this style established him as the leading writer of the Lost Generation. He would go on to become a literary giant and celebrity, winning the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1953 and the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1954. He lived from 1899 to 1961. Ernest Hemingway (Oak Park, Illinois, 21 de julio de 1899 – Ketchum, Idaho, 2 de julio de 1961) fue un novelista y periodista estadounidense, Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1954. Combatió en la Primera Guerra Mundial y fue corresponsal en varios conflictos. Sus obras más célebres incluyen El viejo y el mar (Premio Pulitzer), Adiós a las armas y Por quién doblan las campanas, reconocidas por su estilo directo y su influencia en la literatura universal.
