Munro Leaf (1905-1976) fue un escritor e ilustrador estadounidense de literatura infantil. Nació en Hamilton, Maryland, y se graduó en 1927 de la Universidad de Maryland, obteniendo una maestría en literatura inglesa por la Universidad de Harvard en 1931. Durante su carrera de 40 años, escribió e ilustró cerca de 40 libros.

Su obra más destacada es "La historia de Ferdinand" (1936), que narra la vida de un toro que prefiere oler flores antes que participar en corridas de toros. Este libro fue considerado subversivo en su época, siendo prohibido en la España franquista y quemado en la Alemania nazi. Leaf también colaboró con el ilustrador Robert Lawson en libros como "Wee Gillis" (1937) y "Fábulas de Esopo" (1941). Su trabajo ha sido reconocido internacionalmente, y "La historia de Ferdinand" fue adaptada en un corto animado por Disney en 1938.
