Many middle-aged people also died, having lost the opportunity to engage in science, teaching, deprived of elementary means of subsistence, and many elderly people who could not withstand deep poverty, hunger, insecurity of everyday life. Not intelligence, not law ruled the country, but violence and lawlessness.The novel is based on the tragic story of two main characters, Nikolai and Vasily, who are linked by a common grief - the death of their loved ones during the period of perestroika - and therefore knocked out of normal existence, and then gradually come back to life. They were on the peak of despair, but managed to rise above their grief and learn to absorb not only misfortune, but also the beautiful things that give birth to a new life.The title of the novel refers more to the author herself than to the plot. The author is not ready to be humbled, she believes that there is another world in which righteousness is rewarded and murder is punished.
