It is the summer of 1863, and America's most reluctant adventurer has sought to escape the War Between the States by deserting north. His intention is to flee to New York where he believes the war will not touch him, but on the way he remembers tucked inside the band of his hat is a slip of paper the beautiful Yankee spy Jenny Rakestraw gave him. It bears the name of her hometown, the place where she said she would be waiting for him. Believing he will be well away from the fighting, and finding Jenny Rakestraw too much of a temptation to resist, Speed decides to detour to that town, a place called Gettysburg. Finding himself caught between two armies fighting America's Bloodiest Battle, 19th Century America's inadvertent hero, Jackson Speed, may be the best hope Abe Lincoln has to save the Union. Or maybe he is the man Robert E. Lee needs to win at the High Tide of the Confederacy. But, as usual, Speed's only concern is how best to save his own skin.
