Reseña del libro "Joliba (en Inglés)"

Joliba accomplishes the remarkable feat of reinventing for our times the tradition of great griots. Not only do the poems in this book cast a critical eye on historical episodes such as the Nigerian Civil War and Mungo Park's travels in West Africa, but they also offer intimate explorations of contemporary life across continents. Niran Okewole has fused the intensity of the lyric with the ambition of the epic to craft a collection of literary marvels that illuminate and delight. - Rotimi Babatunde, Caine Prize Winner In Joliba, Niran Okewole returns to “the poetry of ideas” and the intertextual worldliness that have consistently defined and distinguished his creative practice. Here, with characteristic eloquence and precision, he names both the adversities and the possibilities of history. This is poetry of range and depth from one of Nigeria’s most respected poets. - Tosin Gbogi, author of locomotifs and other songs and Assistant Professor of English at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities
