On a windswept peninsula stretching out into the Atlantic, Tomás and his reluctant son, Liam, are working for the great Ordnance Survey project to map the whole of Ireland. Maggie O’Farrell (1972 en Coleraine, Irlanda del Norte), creció en Gales y Escocia tras mudarse con su familia a los dos años de edad. A los ocho años, sufrió una grave encefalitis que la mantuvo hospitalizada y alejada de la escuela por más de un año, experiencia que influyó profundamente en su vida y obra. Estudió Literatura Inglesa en Cambridge y trabajó como periodista en Hong Kong y Londres antes de dedicarse plenamente a la escritura. Actualmente reside en Edimburgo.

Su obra se caracteriza por la profundidad psicológica de sus personajes y la narrativa original. Entre sus novelas más conocidas destacan, After You’d Gone (2000), su debut literario, ganadora del premio Betty Trask; La primera mano que sostuvo la mía (The Hand That First Held Mine, 2010), galardonada con el premio Costa de novela y Hamnet (2020), bestseller internacional y ganadora del Women’s Prize for Fiction y el National Book Critics Circle Award, que ficcionaliza la vida de la familia de William Shakespeare.
