Imre Kertész (Budapest, 1929–2016) fue un escritor húngaro de origen judío, reconocido por su profunda exploración literaria del Holocausto y los regímenes totalitarios. A los 14 años, fue deportado a Auschwitz y posteriormente a Buchenwald, experiencias que marcaron su obra. Tras la guerra, trabajó como periodista y traductor antes de dedicarse plenamente a la escritura. En 2002, recibió el Premio Nobel de Literatura por una obra que "preserva la frágil experiencia del individuo frente a la bárbara arbitrariedad de la historia".

Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran Sin destino (1975), Fiasco (1988), Kaddish por el hijo no nacido (1990) y Liquidación (2003). Estas novelas abordan temas como la identidad, la memoria y la libertad individual en contextos opresivos. Su estilo literario se caracteriza por una prosa precisa y reflexiva, que invita a una profunda introspección sobre la condición humana.
