Edgar Rice Burroughs (1875–1950) fue un escritor estadounidense, ampliamente reconocido por sus influyentes obras de aventura y ciencia ficción, que dejaron una huella duradera en la cultura popular. Es especialmente famoso por haber creado al icónico personaje de Tarzán, quien apareció por primera vez en la novela Tarzan of the Apes (1912). Este personaje se convirtió en un fenómeno mundial, dando lugar a numerosas secuelas, adaptaciones cinematográficas, series y cómics.

Además de Tarzán, Burroughs creó otras sagas importantes como la serie de Barsoom, ambientada en Marte, cuyo primer libro es A Princess of Mars (1912).
