Love doesn't come with an instruction manual. Brooke never fits in. Relationships are confusing, and there aren't mathematical theorems for relating to people. Instead, solo, she spends her days designing knitwear patterns and selling yarn, as well as volunteering with the still-homeless Brighthead Crafters Guild. Brooke's childhood friend, Jonathan Levesque, has slunk back to Brighthead in defeat. He's longed to be a Catholic priest for as long as Brooke's known him, but instead he "discerned out" of seminary. Even worse, his amazing great aunt has tried to sabotage his priesthood by leaving him her home in her will-under the condition that he gets married. A furious Jonathan has the solution: marry Brooke on paper, then divorce and give her the house. She can donate it to the Crafters Guild, and the guild will finally have its headquarters. These terms are clear, and finally Brooke has a place she fits. At least, it works until Jonathan starts stepping outside the carefully-planned limits, and once again, Brooke finds herself creating her life without a pattern.
