Age-related memory changes are not the same as dementia, and dementia is not synonymous with Alzheimer's. This book aims to clarify the different types of dementia. It describes the symptoms, risk factors, diagnosis, and management of each. The stigma attached to these conditions sometimes prevent people in denial from seeking the help they need. Dementia in its various forms is a significant challenge not only to the physicians but also to the patients and their families as well. The willingness of famous persons to publicly disclose their diagnosis and share their personal and family struggles with the disease has in some ways reduced the stigma, and set an example for people with dementia to live their life to the fullest. As more and more famous and powerful people and their families allow information about their illness to become public knowledge, more and more attention will be given to theses debilitating diseases, so more and more help and support will be available to individuals suffering from dementia and those caring for them. There is still an ongoing need to get the word out by sharing information and providing resources for the patients and their families. Efforts are underway to further understand and provide a cure for Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia.
