$ 29.43This book, Messengers of Ethiopia, is the sequel to Dick McLellan's first book, Warriors of Ethiopia. Dick wrote "not to tell our missionary stories, but to record the stories of the men and women of Ethiopia who took the story of Jesus into the dark places of Ethiopia." In this second book Dick brings to life more of the lives of these Ethiopian messengers, people who, as "lambs among wolves", went out to bring peace, hope and reconciliation. And alas, many for whom it could be said, "the world was not worthy."
Dick grew up near Albury NSW, where he became a Christian in a tiny Sunday school led by a lady he called "Aunty Nell." He trained at Sydney Missionary and Bible College where he met his wife, Vida Scott. They were married in Ethiopia in 1955 and had four children. For 23 years they served in what was then called the Sudan Interior Mission (SIM). During this time Dick and Vida worked alongside Ethiopian evangelists to take the Gospel through the mountains and valleys along the Omo River.
When Dick and his family returned to Australia, he served for 24 years as the Director of GR Australia and visited missionaries, evangelists and national church workers throughout Asia, Africa and the Pacific. Many visits were returns to Ethiopia where he ministered to the church that was suffering under an oppressive communist regime. He held secret prayer and teaching seminars to foster house churches and encouraged the Christian community to stand firm in the face of the terrible persecution that lasted until 1991.
Since 1991 he has returned nine times to Ethiopia. One could say that his heart is in the land that has, truly, "stretched out her hands unto God."
