There are conflicting opinions within the Mormon religion between liberal members and conservative members, concerning the identity of which church of our day is The Great and Abominable Church mentioned in the Book of Mormon and the D&C. Liberals whether or not they are members of the Mormon faith, tend to re-write history and cast it a manner that makes it easier to deal with. Taking the liberal's point of view, no one church would ever be identified as The Great and Abominable Church; thus, rendering the prophecy impudent and turning God into a rather whimsical character who at best is tolerated by mankind. The true nature of God is a God of consistency with immutable laws that do not change from one generation to the next. He is a God of justice and mercy; justice and punishment and mercy and forgiveness. Mercy cannot rob justice. Liberals may agree that some church may be the Great and Abominable Church, but which church, is the question. The Great and Abominable Church's name is easily identified by reviewing the history of Christian religions and using the evidence provide by the Inquisition. When that review is done by an unbiased mind it becomes very clear that the Roman Catholic Church of the Dark Ages is The Great and Abominable Church. However, it also becomes very clear that the Catholic Church of our day, is "not" the The Great and Abominable Church. How can that be? The Catholic Church of today cannot be held accountable for the sins of other men of prior generations. The accountability and the guilt for those sins will fall squarely and individually upon the heads of those specific men and women of yesterday's Roman Catholic Church of the Dark Ages, who were responsible for the Inquisition. To irritate, the Catholic Church of today is not the Catholic Church of the Dark Ages; the Catholic Church of today is not the Great and Abominable Church.
