L. Frank Baum (1856-1919) fue un prolífico autor estadounidense, conocido principalmente por sus contribuciones a la literatura infantil. Su obra más famosa, El maravilloso mago de Oz (The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, 1900), es considerada un clásico de la literatura infantil y ha sido adaptada en múltiples ocasiones al cine, teatro y televisión. Baum escribió numerosos libros que forman parte de la serie de Oz, con títulos como La tierra de Oz (1904) y Ozma de Oz (1907), todos dentro del género de fantasía. Además de sus obras de Oz, Baum incursionó en otros géneros como el teatro, los cuentos de hadas y la novela.
