Grazia Deledda fue una destacada escritora italiana nacida el 27 de septiembre de 1871 en Nuoro, en la isla de Cerdeña, y fallecida el 15 de agosto de 1936 en Roma. Es ampliamente reconocida por haber ganado el Premio Nobel de Literatura en 1926, siendo la segunda mujer en recibir este galardón. Su obra se caracteriza por retratar la vida, las costumbres y los conflictos morales del pueblo sardo, especialmente en ambientes rurales y tradicionales.

Desde joven mostró una gran pasión por la escritura, a pesar de no haber recibido una educación formal extensa. Publicó su primera novela a los 17 años y continuó escribiendo durante toda su vida, con un estilo influenciado por el verismo italiano y por los ideales del decadentismo.
