"I have a fortune in gold in a bank," said a dying Finn Clever. "I want half of it to go to a girl named Molly, and the other half to you, Lank." Then he implored young Lank with his last words. "Never get shot with your own gun." The problem for Lank was two-fold. He has to find, Molly, and he had to figure out how to get the bank to give them a fortune based on the words of a dying man. At the same he learns that the government is trying to seize the money. Lank figures he might have to rob the bank in order to get what is rightfully theirs. This means getting the assistance of a banker named Cassnar - a man with a shadowy past and a widowed sister, who leave's Lank smitten, only to vanish. All the while, Lank, a drifter more or less, finds himself being yanked into modern society. It seems everyone has gold on the mind and secrets to hide.
