In this newfound body, Aline's splintered mind names themselves Orlanda in homage to Virginia Woolf as a woman who has now become a man. Orlanda begins to follow Aline. Jacqueline Harpman (Etterbeek, Bruselas, 5 de julio de 1929 - 24 de mayo de 2012) fue una novelista y psicoanalista belga de origen judío. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, su familia se refugió en Casablanca para escapar de la persecución nazi. Tras la guerra, regresaron a Bélgica, donde Harpman estudió literatura francesa en la Universidad de Bruselas. Inició estudios de medicina, pero los abandonó debido a una tuberculosis. Entre sus obras más destacadas se encuentran "Yo que nunca supe de los hombres" (2021), "Orlanda" (1996), galardonada con el Premio Médicis, y "La playa de Ostende". Sus novelas, escritas en francés, exploran temas de identidad y existencia humana.
