From the shores of the Fraser River in Fort Langley, British Columbia, Central Africa might seem like a faraway region-in culture, in traditions, and in language, to name a few. But after observing people of the Kwantlen First Nation in ceremony, author Marc Tateh was reminded of his time in Africa and the need to preserve the Nweh language. Panoramic Explorations of Nweh Rituals and Performance Language is a literary analysis of the language used to conduct a few Nweh ceremonies. This hybrid of poetry and prose delves into the language's literary devices, unearthing a language rich in meaning, musicality, and imagery. Nuanced and attentive, Tateh's analysis is extensive. He uses his fluency and knowledge to document an oral language that's traditionally not written. This act of preservation is done with care and respect for indigenous values and traditions. The UNESCO's Atlas of World's Languages in Danger states that 40 percent of the world's 6700 languages are in danger of extinction.
