Hermes Trismegisto es una figura legendaria de la Antigüedad asociada al hermetismo, tradición filosófica y religiosa que surgió en el mundo greco-egipcio durante los primeros siglos de nuestra era. Su nombre significa «Hermes tres veces grande» y refleja la identificación del dios griego Hermes con el dios egipcio Thot. No existe evidencia histórica concluyente de que haya sido una persona real; más bien, se considera una figura simbólica a la que se atribuyeron diversos textos de carácter filosófico, cosmológico y espiritual.

Entre los escritos tradicionalmente vinculados a Hermes Trismegisto se encuentran el Corpus Hermeticum, la Tabla de Esmeralda y el Asclepio. Los cuatro libros herméticos es una denominación editorial empleada en algunas recopilaciones modernas de textos atribuidos a esta tradición, pero no corresponde a una obra original escrita por un autor histórico llamado Hermes.
