Set in the future, now that the grid has gone down, and all electrical devices, including cars can no longer be used, the U.S. reverts back to using the pony express to deliver the mail. Henrietta, nick named Henry, is set on joining the pony express, as it is the highest paying job around. In order to do it, she must enter a horse race, to prove her skills. However Blake Dawson, who works on the horse ranch she lives on, and has been there, since she was ten, is bound and determined to protect her. If he can't stop her from running in the race, he is certainly going to go with her, to make sure nothing happens to her. In her resentment to have Blake babysitting her, she goes out of her way to try and maintain her independence, but as the hazards of the race present themselves, Henry begins to discover Blake's value, only by that time, she fears someone else has caught his eye.
