Famoso por sus obras de género fantástico y mitológico, el autor irlandés Michael Dillon Scott, conocido como Michael Scott, nació en Dublín en 1959.

Su primer libro, Irish Folk and Fairy Tales, fue publicado en 1983. Tras este, ha firmado más de un centenar de obras entre novelas para adultos, jóvenes adultos y niños de diferentes géneros como la ciencia ficción, el amor y sobre todo el folclore y la fantasía. Dentro de este último se engloba su saga más famosa, Los secretos del inmortal Nicholas Flamel. Esta serie de seis libros se inicia con El alquimista, todo un éxito desde su salida. Completan la saga El Mago, La Hechicera, El Nigromante, El brujo y La Encantadora.

Los libros de Nicholas Flamel han sido protagonistas de varios juegos online, y sus derechos para el cine están en manos de Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
